Joe Falcone – bass Richard Dunbar – french horn Rashied Sinan, drums

This film was produced by Karma Stanley and Juma Sultan for the New York Musicians Organization.

Ahmed Abdullah not only was a major figure of the loft era, he continues his creative endeavors today both as a musician, composer, and educator. He played with Sun Ra for a number of years as well as with Rashied Ali, Arthur Blythe, Sam Rivers, Hamiet Bluiett, and Billy Bang.

An interesting account of his career, Sun Ra, and the loft era can be found in Ahmed Abdullah’s memoirs posted on his website www.ahmedian.com.

Joe Falcone was bassist and an original member of the late 1960’s collective, Masterbrotherhood, with Ahmed Abdullah on trumpet, Joe Rigby on saxophones, Mustafa Abdul Rahman on bass clarinet, Arthur Williams on trumpet, Les Walker piano,, and Steve Reid on drums.

Although he doesn’t appear in the clip shown on this website, french horn player Richard Dunbar does appear in this concert.

While we have not yet found the audio recording of the concert, Juma does believe it will be found in his collection.
