Arbor Day 2017

In celebration of Arbor Day, NYWEA teamed with ECO, Synergy and other environmental clubs to plant 5 trees on campus under the guidance of Alex French, Sustainability Coordinator in Clarkson's Institute for Sustainable Environment. At the beginning, Alex taught us how to pick up a good location to avoid the big stones for digging a hole. We learned that the width of the hole should be about twice the size of the root ball and that the depth of the hole should be at least 3 times the diameter of the root ball. This enables the tree to have enough space and access to sufficient oxygen. We then put the tree in and backfilled the hole. We dug a circular trench around the tree to trap the water and put some stones near the root ball to stabilize the tree.
