Well, last but not least, these are my personal impressions.

Traffic is absolutely crazy. If you think  might work, well, all I can tell  you
is that you will have to run for your life when you cross the street - believe me!
It really does not matter if you have the light in your favor or not.

You need to understand that as a general rule, Chinese people do not have the         concept of personal space. For example, expect to:
be pushed instead of being told "Excuse Me!"
to have people cut you off in front of the line as a daily occurrence
while getting on the mini-bus 502 that takes downtown to have the
person that collects the money push your behind up the stairs - do not worry, it
is not sexual harassment, it's just standard procedure to get people faster
            on the bus

You will absolutely get tired of people gawking at you, but then again, you might just enjoy being the center of attention.

You will love going downtown to shop for music and movies - believe me, it's quite a bargain. Clothes are relatively cheap, but I suggest that you wait shopping until you go to Beijing to Silk Street - they don't sell silk, only clothes with most of the designer labels at ridiculously cheap prices.

Besides the above thoughts, I am sure you will find a wealth of information on Seth's page, as he travelled the most.

I wish you good luck and lots of fun!!!
