According to Juma: this performance was around the time that Jimi Hendrix came out to jam with this band in a midnight concert at the Tinker St Theater. The recording is probably from around June of ’69, a couple of months before the Woodstock Festival. Juma organized all of these Tinker St. concerts.
Rod Hicks played with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Aretha Franklin.
Philip Wilson was a member of the Art Ensemble of Chicago and went on to play with Paul Butterfield, Anthony Braxton, David Murray, Frank Lowe, and Bill Laswell. He died in 1992.
Bobo Shaw was one of the founders of the St. Louis based Black Artists Group (BAG) and went on to play with Frank Lowe, Leroy Jenkins, Oliver Lake, Billy Bang, Lester Bowie, and Anthony Braxton.
Julius Hemphill was also a member of the Black Artists Group as well as the World Saxophone Quartet with Oliver Lake, Hamiet Bluiett, and David Murray. He played with Anthony Braxton, Abdul Wadud, and Olu Dara. He died in 1995
Gene Dinwiddie was also a member of the Butterfield Blues Band and played with James Cotton, B.B. King, Etta James, Greg Allman, and Melissa Manchester.
