This film was produced by Karma Stanley and Juma Sultan for the New York Musicians Organization.

Although this performance was filmed in New York City, the band had a strong Philadelphia connection with Philly natives Byard Lancaster and Monette Sudler

Byard Lancaster continues to perform after four decades as a working musician. He has played and recorded with Sunny Murray, Bill Dixon, Bill Laswell, and Johnny Copeland among others.

Khan Jamal has played with Billy Bang, Sunny Murray, Jemeel Moondoc, and Joe Bonner and is still performing in the new millenium. A review of a 2006 concert notes “Jamal plays in the tradition of Coltrane, partly via the mutual influence of Byard Lancaster, who worked with both Coltrane and Jamal. He performs with utmost concentration and discipline, perfect timing, absolutely no wasted motion, without sentimentality, but with complete mastery and consistency.” Victor Schermer, http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=19534

Guitarist Monette Sudler performed at Studio Rivbea with Sam Rivers, Warren Smith on drums, and Dave Holland on bass. She appeared on Sunny Murray’s Apple Cores album with Frank Foster, Oliver Lake, Cecil McBee, Don Pullen, Yousef Yancy, Fred Hopkins, Abdul Zahir Batin, and Jimmy Vass

We believe we have found the audio recording of the concert, and has been tagged as Item T0235.
