  Qingdao Eat's!

The rundown of places to grab your grub:

Right across the street from gate number four, on Hungdao Lu

Good ice cream, fair prices, and extremely friendly people!

Next to the water/ice cream stand on Hungdao Lu.

Good for quick breakfasts and lunches, hot, fresh, and tasty.

The egg pancake thing is a really good quick lunch/breakfast also. You can get it Lada or Bulada (spicy or not spicy) and pick up a few meat sticks too. The restaurant is ok and fairly good. Make sure to do the math the first time or two you go there, though, the owner has been known to “miscalculate” some bills

The Lunch Buffet Place

Down the street from the previous places, on Daxue Lu. The lunch-buffet is pretty bad, but dinner is hit or miss… sometimes excellent, sometimes not so excellent. The people are friendly and the prices are fair.

The New Hole

This was one of our favorite places. The food is really good, the prices are unbeatable and the people are the best we’ve ever met.

The Sichuan Place

The food is on the spicier side, but very good and the restaurant is very clean. It’s a little more expensive than the other restaurants, but worth the extra money. Go down Dauxe Lu, Bear right onto Qidong Lu and bear right again onto Dandong Lu.

The Bakery

The Bakery is on Qidong Lu, right next to the Fish Place. It’s a good place to get croissants and chocolate ice cream.

The Fish Place

This place is on the corner of Qidong Lu and Daxue Lu and can be found by its florescent lights. The food is very very good and the restaurant is very clean, but the prices are a bit higher and the atmosphere is generally a little more upscale.

The Music Bar

On Dandong Lu, down the street from the Situan place. The food is excellent and the environment is very unique. Prices are exceptional given the cleanliness of the restaurant and the quality of the food.

The Old Hole

This was the first place we ate, and while we were still living at the Yin Hai, the place we frequented the most. The food is good, the prices are low, and the people are friendly. The restaurant is largely someone’s backyard and you can watch two adorable girls play. However, service can be a little on the slow side.

The Market

A great place to get all your essentials. It’s on Qidong Lu and is next door to outdoor fruit vendors. Upstairs are knick-knacks and toiletries, downstairs is food.

What to Avoid:

The Cafeteria

We only ate here once, and it was a bust.  We left for lunch at noon, but apparently the cafeteria only serves substances that can pass for food until 11:30.  We didn't have the guts to go back, but maybe you'll have more luck.  The plus side is you have to get a Golden Dragon card to go.  If it's a bust, you can use the card to keep the electricity on all the time in your room for the rest of the summer.
