Particle-Surface Interactions

When two surfaces are close to each other, the hydrodynamic lubrication effects become important. Consider a disk is moving toward a flat surface with a velocity U as shown in Figure 1.

Using the squeezed film model, the force per unit area needed for moving a disk towards a surface is given by
