Welcome...
This series of interactive engineering courses is part of the
Combined Research Curriculum Development (CRCD) project on particle transport, deposition and removal. The support of the National Science Foundation CRCD program under the
auspices
of Dr. Mary Poats is
gratefully acknowledged.
This site includes standard course material available to
students, and an entire series of lecture notes of information related to the courses,
as well as a variety of mechanisms allowing interaction with the site via the
utilization of relevant java applet modules.
The Particle Transport, Deposition, and Removal On-line Curriculum
is a comprehensive series of undergraduate and graduate
courses covering fundamentals of particle transport processes, and the related computational and experimental methodologies.
The courses cover
aerosol mechanics, particle transport and deposition in laminar and turbulent flows, particle adhesion, and particle resuspension. Particular
emphasis is given on industrial and environmental applications such as microcontamination control, surface
cleaning, clean room and process equipment, ultrasonic and megasonic cleaning, as well as pollution control in indoor and out door environment. What will you get out of this course?
- formulate and solve aerosol transport and deposition problems in laminar and turbulent flows.
- analyze particle adhesion and removal of micro- and nano-particles.
- become familiar with computational fluid mechanics and particle trajectory analysis procedures.
- demonstrate a working knowledge of advanced CFD codes, particularly for analyzing and solving aerosol transport in laminar and turbulent flows.
- understand a variety of experimental procedures for studying particle transport, dispersion, adhesion and removal.
- analyze various microcontamination problems in microelectronic and imaging industries.
- become familiar with various surface cleaning techniques, including ultrasonic cleaning
- understand the processes that control air pollution in building and in street canyons.
- analyze particle deposition in lung and nose passage.
