Poojitha D. Yapa, a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY, USA has B.Sc (Honors) in Civil Engineering, M.Sc in Hydraulic engineering, and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has been invited through prestigious fellowships to spend extended time as a visiting professor at several prestigious universities around the world (for details see biography). He has been invited to give over 60 invited seminars in 10 countries His research has focused on the broad area of Environmental Fluid Mechanics problems. Within that broad area, his research has focused on the following topics: (i) modeling the transport, fate, and impact of oil and gas (methane and natural gas) releases in deepwater; (ii) oil spill modeling in free surface (and also ice covered) waters; (iii) modeling the impact of hydrothermal vents in the deepwater; and (iv) modeling the ecological impact of carbon dioxide releases in shallow and deep water. Prof. Yapa is an expert on modeling the behavior of oil and gas released in deepwater as well as shallow water. The numerical models he and his students developed such as CDOG, MEGADEEP, and ADMS have been tested using experimental data and are well accepted by the peers. He also developed models such as MOHTV. For a complete list of the models he and his students developed see the Models section. More >>
