An incredible research experience at your fingertips.

Dalian was quick to cast out that initial “I don't belong” feeling that is common in new places with new people.  Sooner than later it becomes your home and you learn to love all the opportunities it has to offer.  From Y55 meals that feed 8 people to street meat until the wee hours of the morning, tandem bicycling to disco motorcycling, researching the NBA finals with your graduate students to presenting Texas Hold ‘Em to a large group of confused Chinese students, the passage of your life before your eyes every time you enter a taxi to the crowded Y1 buses, newfound dance skills in comparison to Chinese locals to lack of skills in badminton, jinzi (feather hackey-sack) and ping-pong compared to Chinese locals, 3 dollar massages to 1 dollar haircuts at one of  the 1,252 barber shops, and Y7 Russian DVDs to Chinese news programs about pigeons on CCTV9.  In all seriousness, what Dalian has to offer is endless, and what you take from it is totally up to you.  Our group came together and experienced all it could.  We came out with a tight bond that will extend beyond our 2 months together.

We all gained friendships, research experience, international perspective, and a cultural appreciation that provided us with an overall experience of a lifetime that will remain ingrained in each of us indefinitely.  Besides doing research that is at the forefront of specific scientific fields, working with researchers in China is a rewarding opportunity.  The program, however, is much more than just a regular research experience.  It will captivate you in new ways and and propel you into a world that is both different and intriguing.  This is not a normal Research Experience for Undergraduates.  It's something much more special and much more meaningful.

This webpage is designed to give you a brief overview of our summer adventure in Dalian, China.  In the end, you can decide to create your own adventure as well.

And in case you were wondering, 1 American dollar is approximately 8 Yuan (Y).
