Topic: Finite Element Analysis of an Offshore Structure Model in Response to Dynamic Loading

    Mentor: Wang Yuefang

Abstract

This paper describes the analysis of vibration response of a laboratory model structure using an ANSYS finite element model. The laboratory model, built as a scaled replication of an offshore oil platform, is subjected to harmonic displacement excitations at a range of frequencies while acceleration and displacement data are collected. The finite element model response and test structure response are compared to evaluate the computer simulation as an effective modeling tool. Through assessment of the responses in the frequency domain, the simplifications encompassed in the finite element model are deemed acceptable and suitable for future use in vibration analysis testing of this structure.
