Chinese Classes

If you want to start or continue learning the Chinese language, there are several ways of getting a teacher or tutor to help you along.  We had two different levels since some of us had already studied Chinese.  The beginning class wanted to get a quick background on basic concepts such as food, colors, and numbers.  The advanced class tried to find a common starting point and went from there.  We all had class after 5:00 PM making sure that we put in a full work day at the office  You can talk to your teacher about how many days a week and how many hours a day you would like to have class.  Try to be flexible on time because there are lots of things in Dalian to do and you do not want to be tied down in the office 8 hours a day and in the classroom for another 2.

You can contact Zhang Lei, the executive director for the School of International Cultural Exchanges.  He can set you up with an experienced teacher and can help you buy textbooks.  He will probably give you a list of names of several graduate students and their phone numbers.  You can call them and find out if their schedules are compatible with what you might want.  The price per hour is very negotiable and you probably might end up paying less than you think and more than your graduate student was probably expecting.
